This course will explore the hisotry of the main Christian denominations in North America since 1945, with a particular attention on Catholicism in the United States. Along with a chronological analysis of the major historical events of that period, classes will investigate several topics where Christians played important roles in shaping North American culture and society, such as feminism, religious revivals, pacifism, abortion and pro-life politics, immigration, etc.

Classes feature discussions and critical thinking. In every class professor’s lecture will be followed by a discussion on an assigned source, primary or secondary, using a seminar format. During lectures professor will provide backgrounds and suggestions with which students can interpret the sources. Active learning tools will be used while in class.
