Course Overview – Business Strategy and Internationalization

This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts and analytical frameworks of business strategy and internationalization. In the opening lecture, we will examine the core ideas that shape the entire course and explore the thinkers who have contributed to their development. This introductory overview is intentionally concise and is designed to encourage students to deepen their understanding beyond class discussions and exam preparation.

The section on strategy will address the meaning of strategy and business strategy, the key components that constitute a strategic framework, and the process of strategic planning. We will also analyze the relationship between business strategy and the business model, with particular attention to the Lean Canvas as a tool for mapping and assessing entrepreneurial ideas.

The module on internationalization will clarify the concept of internationalization and its strategic implications, present the main models used to understand how firms expand across borders, and illustrate how to design an internationalization strategy. A practical case drawn from professional experience will provide an applied perspective on the challenges and opportunities associated with entering and developing foreign markets.
